Liquor Store, Tribeca
NYC

This Tribeca location housed in a former corner bar built in the early 19th century, is an amazing space which comes with a 30 foot landmarked bar counter; its full of memories and history which we decided to honour.

While working on this space, James was reading the biography of the Bloomsbury artist Duncan Grant and was taken with his colours from his 1930's paintings, most notably the muted olive green which is dotted throughout his work of that time. This colour inevitivebly found its way into the store design with us painting the entire store (literally every surface) in a high-gloss lacquer olive green paint.

In addition, we incorporated some modern flourishes - custom lighting from Urban Archeology which we had coloured to match the paint, a beautiful herringbone French Oak floor and artwork we sourced in London by artist Nigel O’Neil.

The space, while small, is one of our favourite stores that we have designed. It is intimate and feels like a men’s club. On our last trip to NYC, we strolled in to find a client at the bar with a tumbler of Scotch while waiting for his pants to be pressed…it was exactly the moment we envisioned.
