Los ANGELES
L.A. has always had a place in our hearts. Todd and James have looked at numerous spaces over the years, including one building where the ceiling was being held up with a plank of wood which James thought for sure would fall down…and a bizarre restaurant space where the landlord refused to remove a rather large kitchen with industrial ovens. We had seen it all.
The space Todd finally found was in The Grove: the perfectly manicured and curated shopping area in the center of the West side of Los Angeles. The space had been a former men’s store and had good “bones” …but needed an update, and definitely a spin.
As the store was in L.A., we wanted to give it a lighter touch; using mainly creams and whites with punches of olive green. The floor plan was changed slightly to open the space up more while also creating three distinct rooms to help tell the merchandising stories Todd is famous for.
The front room shows the latest collection on the left. On the right, we created a changeable feature wall which includes a Moscot outpost, and shelving that can be switched out to show both commodity stories as well as become a more eclectic merchandising mix…we even threw in a DJ booth and a wall of vinyl that Todd decided to sell.
Room two houses our repurposed millwork, an Aesop outpost and a shoe area. The case (which was part of an installation by Damien Hirst at the Victoria and Albert museum)
for the shoe area was found by James in one of our favorite (secret) London stores, with
the last room designed and dedicated for suiting.
We updated the storefront with vintage English door handles and provided creative direction for a new glass transom & mullions inspired by the Pimlico Road store, Howe.
