SØRENSEN
LOS ANGELES
James met Wayne Sorensen in London where he had his first pop up for his new brand, Sørensen.
The brand’s store aesthetic followed its mantra “quiet, precise and confident”. With these codes in mind, we worked with Wayne to create his first stand-alone space located in the Culver City area of Los Angeles.
The space is approximately 500 square feet with a large glass storefront and concrete floors; the overall mood of the existing space was that of an industrial workshop - which is exactly what Wayne was looking for.
We decided to make the store more like an installation - nothing was permanent and could be moved around with little effort. The walls which formed the subtle coloured background to the clothing were panels that z-clipped to the wall, covered in a custom-made plaster to match the brand’s colour palette.
For the decor, we used some items which Wayne had shipped from London - a 1940’s workbench was used as the main table in the space and the fitting room curtain fabric was found by Wayne at his favourite surplus vintage store; we had the curtains made by a company in Manhattan Beach who made sailboat sails. To finish off, we sourced builder pencils in “Sorensen orange” to help throw in a bit of colour and continue the theme of the workshop.
