LOVESHACKFANCY
LONDON
We had been looking in London with the LoveShackFancy team for over two years for the perfect space in Notting Hill: the quirky, creative, and hip neighborhood adjacent to the famously colorful Portobello Road.
We worked with both Todd and Rebecca Cohen hand in hand on this project: from Zoom calls in Ibiza to meetings in London where we appropriated Todd’s pant fabric (a custom LSF fabric just for him) for the fitting room curtains…. this one had to be special as this was LoveShackFancy’s first international location.
For the façade, we wanted to keep the historical structure and add to it. We worked with our decorative painter to design a hand-painted rambling rose motif which would be the backdrop of the gilded LoveShackFancy brand logo. On top of this, we layered a very light floral treatment working with our London-based teams. A few pieces of hand-picked furniture were added to add the final layer.
For the interior, we decided to fir out the walls and create a clean backdrop for the custom “cupcake” moldings and handmade plaster rose vines. The plaster roses were all handmade in London and individually placed….all 1,000 of them. This created the base of the store….from there, we layered….a lot.
Rebecca wanted to make sure that the store respected its location; ‘it must look very English’ was our mantra. With this brief, James and the head of LSF Visuals headed to Tetbury, England to shop for all the furniture as well as to our favorite London stores for chandeliers and artwork.
The furniture drew inspiration from classic English country houses. A chesterfield sofa reupholstered in a Colefax & Fowler silk velvet; a pair of country club chairs reupholstered in a custom LoveShackFancy fabric with matching pillows and heavy trims.
The store opened during the Christmas holidays so we were able, with the help of our friends at Moyses Stevens, to add the final layer on with the holiday decor.
