LOVESHACKFANCY
CHARLESTON
When we heard that LoveShackFancy was looking in Charleston we started by explaining to Stefanos, our studio manager, who Suzanne Sugarbaker was: the brassy Southern Belle from the 1980’s show, Designing Women. Southerners are a rare and unique breed and we wanted to create a store that would fit into the historic neighborhood and create a sense of Southern charm and hospitality.
The store is one of the largest LoveShackFancy stores we have designed - approximately 3,000sq ft - and contains a full home and girls area as well as a garden at the back of the store, designed to be used for parties.
We kept many of the original details including the beadboard ceiling, mosaic tiles at the entry and the iron door leading to the garden. We decided that “layering” was the word to describe the design. We flew in our decorative painter, Connor from Los Angeles to paint the floors with a light pink grid and a flower inspired by a LoveShackFancy print; he also distressed and lightened wallpapers to create a unique and historic feel.
Keeping true to Southern hospitality, we also tried to use as many locals as possible - Alexandra Antiques supplied most of the furniture and our gardener Cheryl Ross, briefed us on the local vegetation helping to create the large outdoor back garden.
