SHORT HILLS
NYC
This Short Hills mall location was a renovation of an existing space which the brand had occupied for several years. With the success of the Yorkdale mall location, we continued our strategy of splitting the store into a men’s and women’s shop; each with their own personalized mood and materials.
For the women’s shop, we kept it bright, airy and feminine. We continued to use mouldings inspired by Georgian architecture and painted the walls in several tones and finishes of grey. The floors are a light oak in a herringbone pattern. We also designed custom bronze fixtures (we would later use this design in the Printemps’ Paris location). The store also continued the brand’s lifestyle approach to merchandising by integrating vintage finds such as Chanel and Hermes bags from the 70’s sourced in Paris.
The display features took inspiration from female artists - one notable installation was behind the cash desk- an Annette Messager inspired installation which we made out of vintage silver mirrors collected for over a year.
The Men’s shop shared several architectural elements such as the oak flooring and the use of moulding to help keep some harmony between the shops which shared a common pass through.
The mood of the men’s space, however, was very different; darker and intimate. The ceiling was made of painted oak board and rough wood beams which scaled the space down. Several finds from our trips to London were layered in the space - a train station clock greets you as you enter and a repurposed gymnastic pummel horse was used as a bench to display product.
