CANAL HOUSE
AMSTERDAM
SITUATED IN THE DE WALLEN AREA OF CENTRAL AMSTERDAM ON A CORNER WITH TWO CANAL VIEWS, THIS NEWLY RENOVATED APARTMENT WAS IN NEED OF A BIT OF WARMTH. USING SOFT, CHALKY WHITE COLOURS WITH PALE OAK FLOORS, WE CREATED THE BACKGROUND TO LAYER ON THE OWNER’S EXTENSIVE ART COLLECTION WHICH INCLUDES PIECES BY RICHARD SERRA, KIKI SMITH AND DAVID HOCKNEY.
UP ON THE OWNER’S TRAVELS. WE PAIRED NEW ITEMS SUCH AS A CUSTOM LACQUERED COFFEE TABLE WITH THE OLD, MIXING TIME PERIODS SUCH AS THE 1970’S SHAGREEN KARL SPRINGER BOX NEXT TO AFRICAN BEADS WHICH WE FOUND IN A FLEA MARKET IN NEW YORK. THIS TENSION AND JUXTAPOSITION OF PIECES ADDS TO THE COLLECTED SPIRIT OF THE SPACE.
THE OVERALL MOOD IS ONE OF CALM WITH A RESTRAINED COLLECTION OF ITEMS WHICH HAVE BEEN PICKED
