ALI & JAY
LOS ANGELES
While working on Bailey 44 in the Century City mall, we were approached by the CEO of Ali and Jay to work with the brand on its first freestanding location. The 1000 square foot space was long and narrow but had amazing high ceilings and a corner location.
Working with the Creative Director, we created the brand codes - material, fixtures and mood. The brief for JMS was to create a modern, clean backdrop for the product. With this in mind, we decided to create a monumental statement with the shop by using one colour and noble materials for the entire space, inspired by the work of the Mexican architect Luis Barragan.
We covered the ceilings and floors with a custom venetian plaster in a nude tone. The decor was kept simple and focused - brass dome lights and simple marble finished plinths to hold accessories were the only decor pieces in the front of the store. We also commissioned Zack Tyler to create a mural in the fitting rooms which continued onto the curtains to help create the feeling of standing in the middle of a painting.
